Updated to a contemporary setting and utilizing a semi-documentary approach, the film charts the existential crisis and subsequent decline of Dr. Ragin from chief psychiatrist of a mental institution to asylum inmate. Co-written and directed by veteran filmmaker Karen Shakhnazarov and selected as Russia’s entry for the 2010 Academy Awards, Ward No.6 is a compelling exploration of the fearfully delicate line that separates sanity and insanity.
