12/12/12 – Fine Art Exhibition (Savvas Koureas, Simoni Symeonidou, Petros Stavrou)

According to the Mayan calendar, the end of the world is near. Nobody can be sure if this is true. Just in case of the so called ‘final destruction’, artists Savvas Koureas, Simoni Symeonidou and Petros Stavrou are exhibiting their most recent work. The presented art works are so recent, that possibly, the moment you are reading this press release, they might not have even been created yet.

If we wanted to say big and empty words, we could talk about the symbolic meanings given to the number ‘twelve’ for thousands of years now. For us, this seems unnecessary. What we want is, on the twelfth day of the twelfth month of two thousand and twelve, to speak through our artwork. The date of the exhibition opening is certainly not random and therefore it is absolutely related to reality. That is also the reason why it was chosen as the show’s title. Our artistic collaboration occurred through seemingly random coincidences, as if all led to it happening. The coincidence of three identical numbers in the date will not occur again in the present century. Thus, we celebrate this coincidence and we honor the number twelve by presenting works, created especially for this show.
