Description

Maria Hadjitophi-Charitonidi was born in occupied Lyssi. She studied at the Stroganov Institute of Applied Arts in Moscow 1975-80. She is an Art professor in Secondary Education. Solo exhibitions 1997 - “Women Figures Throughout Time” Four Seasons Hotel, Limassol, Cyprus | 2001 - “Ichthiographies”, Opus 39 Gallery, Nicosia, Cyprus | 2003 - “Memories”, Kivotos Gallery, Athens, Greece | 2007 - “The Return”, Opus 39 Gallery, Nicosia, Cyprus and 2012 - “Weaving on the Loom of Memories with the Threads of Recollection”, Opus 39 Gallery, Nicosia, Cyprus. Ιn 2011 she participated in the exhibition “The Object: Stories and Representations” Cypriot Artists born between 1949 and 1964, Evagoras and Kathleen Lanitis Foundation in Limassol.

Childhood flashbacks recur as the "eternal return" of the artist herself, drowned in sorrow of a generation wounded by war and the “refugee” experience without any emotional upheaval and useless anectodal elements.
