Relationships
DEFA was the state owned film production company in the former GDR (eastern Germany). Many (if not most) of the films produced by DEFA carried political messages, the state wanted to influence public opinion with. In this film series we present films, which showed more the private sphere of the east german society, where nevertheless the private and the public were always intertwined. Most of the films will be screened on Cyprus for the first time. One of the most popular stars of the GDR film industry, the actress Jutta Hoffmann, will be present. She was the protagonist in two of the films which will be screened. Jutta Hoffmann however left the GDR in the early eighties and settled in West Germany, where she continued her career in theatre and television.
