Culture in Action organizes the first Festival Artou (Bread Festival) at Faneromeni Square on Saturday morning, 6th October 2012, an event that is under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Culture in Action is a team of young people, who aim through this festival to revitalize the customs of kneading and baking bread and involve young people in tradition. The choice of venue, the picturesque Faneromeni square, also contributes to the traditional scenery.

The Festival will be opened by the Deputy Minister of European Affairs, Andreas D. Mavroyiannis and the Mayor of Nicosia Mr. Constantinos Yorkadjis. What’s more, Ioannis Yiakoumi, lecturer in Culinary Arts of University of Nicosia, will make a presentation on the importance of bread in Cypriots life.

The programme will include bread kneading and baking by volunteers, activities for children, as well as a cultural programme by the music band “Monsieur Dumani” and the dancing group “Vraka”. During the festival, hot bread and other Cypriot delicacies will be offered.
