Description

Thiseas Art Gallery invites you the art exhibition of Yiota Ioannidou "Lonely Red Rider"

Few words about this work:

Using a variety of mixed media, such as ink, acrylic, cardboard, red-painted aluminium, pieces of rope and threads, Yiota Ioannidou creates a visual transliteration of the dictum ‘travelling is the highest form of introspection’.

Transmuting herself and each one of us to a lonely mounted traveller, in the course of a fascinating journey around the world, in search of values and ideals across the barriers of countries, cultures, languages and religions, she delves deep into exploring and redefining an estranged and long forgotten identity and casting a penetrating eye on the inner self.

An impetuously free and yet infallibly precise flow of the line, pouring out of an innate drawing dexterity, delineates forms of the natural and the built environment in a black and white contrast, transforming rivers, seas, meadows, mountains, cities and villages into a monumental and eternal scenery, with no specifications of place and time.
The rider, in red relief, offers a soothing balance and an optimistic comfort to the drama of flat and intense linear shadows that obscure visions, feelings and sentiments and becomes a symbolic voyageur to an intermediate territory between the imaginary and the mundane.

The archetypal red figure on horseback renders the trip a lonely, esoteric quest and infuses a sense of magic realism to a chiaroscuro narrative, shedding light to landscapes of the soul, illuminating and revealing the hidden, dark sides of the personal and the collective unconscious.
