Description

By the National Theatre of Greece - Stamatis Fasoulis.

It’s the end of the 2nd century A.C. The Roman Empire is crumbling. It is the end of an era. In this time of decay and decline, three theatre groups arrive from the three corners of the Empire in an ancient open air theatre and set up their own improvised drama contest based on those of the “glorious past”.

In a lively scenic synthesis that goes deep back in time, setting off from the beginning of ancient Greek Literature up until the Roman period, the history of theatre comes alive on stage. Extracts from Greek and Roman tragedies and comedies, hymns and chorals, mimes and impressive sports, combats, acrobatics and spectacular demonstrations with fire – elements of the Roman arena – compose a colourful, enchanting, diverse, emotionally moving and charming collage.
