Description
The Parisian photographers Charlotte Ballesteros and Hubert Marort present their most recent photographic work entitled "Scars are like Flowers" at The Office in old Nicosia.
"Scars are like flowers.
They open up one day, and then they close…
Scars come from a wound of the soul that blossoms upon the body. They are an integral part of the physical and mental shock. From the opening to the closing of the wound, they testify to the violence that has happened, the gushing of the blood, the accident of memory on life’s winding road.
The wound is like a flower: it lives, it blossoms, then withers away and dies, leaving a trace behind.
In this interval between life and death, there is neither time nor space – there is only the trauma and the trace of its reality.
Absence of the landscape / abstraction from reality.
These four men have experienced this very act/operation, under various circumstances: illness, accident, aesthetics, childhood. By interspersing them with landscape photographs of “non-spaces”, we have endeavored to show the relationships between the abstract spaces and the engraved flesh.
There is no past, no present: they all bear the trace of a trauma, they bear a visible sign, they bear a tear that has been shut over past, present and future.
The sense of time, the sense of corporeality is thus inscribed, like a visible memento. For ever more, they have upon themselves the traces of a single moment conjugated, confined, derailed, torn and crumpled, and then put all back together, like the pieces of a garment that one must wear." C+H
