Description

The internationally famed sculptor Aristides Patsoglou presents a solo exhibition featuring his latest work at Alpha Gallery, Nicosia. The exhibition opens on Wednesday 11 May at 19:30. The exhibition will be opened by the Bishop of Kykkou and Tillirias Mr. Nikiforos.

Aristides Patsoglou is among the most significant contemporary Greek sculptors. He was born in Lesvos in 1941. He studied sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts with Yannis Papas. He continued his studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the tutelage of César and Collamarrini. He has exhibited his work in over thirty solo exhibitions and hundreds of group exhibitions throughout the world.

His sculpture balances between the classical traditions of ancient Greece and various contemporary trends. His work is anthropocentric, lyrical and sensitive. His work cannot be classified under a single art movement, but rather as a school which shows his creativeness and mastery of material.

His works are found in the National Gallery in Athens, the Vorres Museum of Athens, the Tellogio Center in Thessaloniki, the collections of the National Bank of Greece in Athens and Hellenic Bank, Nicosia, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Tunisian Museum of Contemporary Art, the Nicosia Tennis Stadium, the Agios Eleftherios metro station in Athens, the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Art, the Gare de l’Est, Pais, the European Cultural Center at Delphi, and in numerous other public and private collections.

The exhibition also includes a series of eight engravings inspired and created for Klairi Angelides’ latest book Pentadaktylos my Son.
