Music and Songs of the Mediterranean
‘In the colourful polyphony of the Mediterranean, one could pick up the bright red rose perched over a staircase in Andalusia, the glaring white of a balcony overlooking the Aegean Sea or the dusty yellow of a sand-built settlement along the banks of the Nile at dawn. One can cast a glance towards the mountains and the rural villages that still preserve local dialects, traditional occupations and an ancient festivals like solitary enclaves of an untouched past. Or turn towards the towns and the harbours, which became the cradle of the multifarious character of the modern day Mediterranean region. Here all colours merge and blend together in a vivid mosaic…’
