Description
Filmmaker and playwright Neil LaBute has been acclaimed for his edgy and unsettling portrayal of human relationships.
In his collection of latterday plays "bash" he touches on tragedies from Greek legends through a dark and contemporary vision of casual atrocity, "a matter of fact brutality" as he puts it, where understandable individuals of ordinary lifestyle inflict pain on themselves and others in the name of prosaic goals with socially insignificant results.
In "Iphigenia in Orem" a businessman confesses how and why he witnessed his five month old daughter die. In "Medea Redux" a woman under interrogation explains how her past love affair with her teacher has led to the murder of her fourteen year old son. Each piece is a testament to the creeping horror of a murderer whose life goes on.
"LaBute explores the banality of evil ... for those who crave edgy, provocative theatre." Boston Herald
