Description

Sketches and art notes by Adi Atassi

The painter Adi Atassi is a genuine bohemian artist.
He was born in the town of Homs in Syria in 1962 and for the last 23 years he lives and creates in Cyprus. His personal and artistic idiosyncrasy was originally formed in his country of origin, were the natural beauty of the landscape and the intense mysticism of eastern cultural tradition let him to the magical world of art and the exploration of artistic expression.

The artist at first moves to Damascus for his university Fine Art education; and from there he continues his spiritual adventure arriving and setting anchor in our island. Here he sets routs and creates work that beyond doubt puts him on the map of contemporary Cypriot artistic geography. During the last few years Adi, as a maturing artist, offers us his fruitage in the form of interesting fine art proposals. Last year the artist presents two interventions.

The first one includes the experimental work “Ledra awaking my senses” presented at the “Stoa Aischylou” and the second one a joined painting exhibition with painter Eleni Karavioti at “Technis Dromena” gallery with the title “Angels”.

What characterizes the art language of Adi Atassi in both his paintings and sketches is the intense and “uneasy” lines. These lines are in effect a continuation of the physical body of the artist and express his inner world and describe his reactions to every-day life.

On the 31st of May at 20:00 at the Hall of Peace of Nicosia Municipality at the end of Ledra Street next to the Green Line, Adi Atassi in cooperation with art critic Christodoulos Kallinos will present his sketches. This work of the artist includes drawings and sketches in ink, charcoal, pencil and watercolor with main reference to the human form and the daily lives of people of the area which is the place were the artist lives and works.

The mayor of Nicosia Mrs. Eleni Mavrou will open the exhibition and it will remain open from the 31st of May to the 2nd of June.
