Description
The European Capital of Culture Pafos2017 presents the work – installation of Costas Tsoclis at Petra tou Romiou. The artist creates in situ, with the co-operation of the architect Giorgos Triantafyllou and the sculptor Dimitris Skalkotos, the work “Ten Points of Vision“.
“We shall isolate…” the artist says, “ten pieces of land, without cutting them off the general natural landscape (as opposed to what happens when a photo is taken or to what is seen from a window) and we shall unify them with certain sculptural elements, so as to create another reality”. The artist considers this work to be a natural result and the continuation of his well-known work “Live Painting“, which was presented 31 years ago in the 42nd Venice Biennale.
As the artist relates in his explanatory text of the “Live Painting” : “nature, in contrast to painting, together with its general and essential image, is also burdened with a load of useless and often deceptive details. In this work, I suggest its barest and most easily recognised faces, so that your vision and imagination shall find room to enrich them with meanings, transforming you thus for a moment from passive observers into infallible painters, duplicators of natural phenomena.”
Giorgos Triantafyllou, the basic co-ordinator of the project, is responsible for the overall shaping of the exhibition space.
The work itself is offered gratis by the “Costas Tsoclis Museum” and the artist’s collaborators, within the frame of Costas Serezis’ exhibition “Pafos: Myth, History, Landscape”.
The installation of the work “Ten Points of Vision” is supported by the Community Council of Kouklia.
