Location

Point Centre for Contemporary Art
2 Evagorou Avenue

Description

Influenced by an anthropological background, Aron Rossman-Kiss’ practice has led him in the past years to conduct fieldwork and present his work in regions in and at the periphery of Europe. Drawing both upon this experience and other works, his talk in Point Centre for Contemporary Art will focus on the ways anthropological questioning, theory and methodology can influence the different stages of the creative process. He will particularly focus on examples encountered during his work along Europe’s borders and evoke the power relationships at play in producing documentary images, the possibilities of self-representations and how participatory approaches influence formalism and aesthetics.

The talk will be followed by a discussion.

Aron Rossman-Kiss is a young visual artist born in Geneva. At the intersection of art, documentary research and anthropology, his current work focuses on issues related to collective identity, the intersection of public and private memory and borders.

He is also a founding member of SKLAD AIR, the first residency program in Abkhazia (Caucasus). His work ‘Room in a Wall’ is presented in Paphos, Shelley Residence, till the 29th of March.
