Description
The Collection Gallery will be showcasing the artwork of Andreas Tomblin and Tatiana Soteropoulos in an exhibition entitled "The New Colossus: Defying the (im)possibilities of Liberty."
The exhibition will be inaugurated by the American Ambassador Kathleen A. Doherty on the 1st of June, 2016, at 7:30pm.
The artists have drawn inspiration for their work from the 1883 poem "The New Colossus," by Emma Lazarus, which is engraved on a bronze plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty monument in New York City. Originally conceived as a symbol of the friendship between France and the United States, and a sign of their mutual desire for freedom, the Statue has evolved to become a universal symbol of independence throughout the world, embodying hope and opportunity as it welcomes millions of immigrants who are seeking a better life.
Mr. Tomblin and Ms. Soteropoulos pay homage to the concept of liberty and look for answers to what the meaning of freedom is. The dynamic work they've created reflects upon universal desires and complex emotions which will be familiar to anyone who has ever embarked upon a journey to seek a fresh start or an improved existence. The end result of their efforts is a bold collection of thought-provoking images that explode with life and energy.
A portion of the artwork sales will be donated to Europa Donna.
The art exhibition will remain open to the public from the 1st of June, 2016, until the 5th of September, 2016.
