Description

The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, within the framework of its programmes for 2016, organises special guided tours of its permanent collections.

“The Fortification of Nicosia through the ages” is the theme of the first round of tours that were prompted by the recent upgrade of the interactive multimedia application “The walls of Nicosia”.

Through the rare Maps Collection of the Museum, which depict the Venetian fortification of the city of Nicosia, the public will have the opportunity to either gain knowledge or enrich their understanding of the design, structure and construction of the walls, which to this day encompass the busy centre of the capital, as well as the historic events related to the fortification of our city.

The interactive part of the tour will be the highlight of the event, as a 3D digital presentation will be shown on a state-of-the-art touch screen. The presentation will include the development and evolution of the area’s topography through the ages as well as the modification of the fortification of the city during the Frankish and Venetian Period.

The guided tours will take place at the Museum’s permanent galleries on Friday 29 January 2016, 17:00 (delivered in Greek) and Friday 5 February 2016, 17:00 (delivered in English). The tours will be guided by Curator Elena Poyiadji – Richter.
