Description

A one act opera by Giacomo Puccini.

It is the story of Suor Angelica, a girl from an aristocratic family who embarrassed her family by having a baby boy without being married. Her parents send her at a monastery where she stays and for a period of seven years never receives anyone for a visit.

Suddenly, one day, she gets a visit from her cruel Aunt to ask her to sign papers in regards to her family estate, but Suor Angelica is eager to find out what happened to her baby boy. Her Aunt tells her that her son passed away at the age of three. In her unbearable pain she takes poison to die and meet her son in the afterlife while singing the aria Senza Mama.

On her dying moments she asks Mother Mary for forgiveness.
