Description

The Philokalia Women’s Choir was established in 2005 in Prague by the Cypriot musician Marios Christou and brings together mainly students of music from the Charles University and the Prague Conservatoire. Its repertoire includes works for mixed and women’s choir, as well as musical pieces performed with a chamber music orchestra.

The Philokalia Choir made its debut in December 2005 at the Foerstrova Sin concert hall and since then has participated with much success in a number of importance cultural events in Prague (concerts of the Prague Conservatoire, the Museum of Czech Music and others). The Philokalia Women’s Choir performs mainly non-liturgical Orthodox ecclesiastical music in an attempt to promote and preserve the pro-Western Orthodox music.

The programme of the concert features among others:
Vespers (op. 37) – S. Rachmaninof (6 compositions)
Missa Brevis (Kanonická mše) – M. Christou (6 compositions)
Maestro: Marios Christou.
