Description
The word "mandala" is from the classical Indian language of Sanskrit. Loosely translated to mean "circle", a mandala is far more than a simple shape. It represents wholeness, and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of life itself - a cosmic diagram that reminds us of our relation to the infinite, the world that extends both beyond and within our bodies and minds.
Claire Efstathiou, born 1984 in Athens and now living and working in Pafos, studied Psychology. One of the subjects of her curriculum was Art Therapy in which the therapeutical effects of mandalas were discussed. This introduction in the world of these ancient forms and shapes, combined with her artistic talent and aspirations formed the basis for this exhibition.
The exhibition shows the process self-taught artist Claire Efstathiou has been gone through since then: from the initial sketches und completed projects. This set-up reflects her philosophy about art: ”It is not the final painting that matters, what is important is the journey from the very beginning until the end result and how this experience enriches you.
The preview of the show Mandalas is on Saturday, 4th of July at 7PM. The exhibition will run until July 30th.
