Description
An exhibition of the German artist Christine Steinberg Mund will open at Tehnis Dromena Gallery, 53 Arch. Kyprianou Street, Strovolos, Nicosia on Tuesday 9 December at 7.30pm.
Christine, after an apprenticeship as a graphic designer, studied illustration in Kassel, Cologne and Düsseldorf. She then moved to Egypt where she taught at the German School. She had several exhibitions at the Goethe Institute and after 7 years in Egypt, she moved to Tanzania where she lived for 14 years. She taught at the Universities of Dar-Es-Salaam and Njumba Ya Sanaa. She created Stamps for the 1978 International Anti-Apartheid Year. She had several exhibitions in Dar-Es-Salaam, Madagascar, Germany and Austria. During her time in Tanzania, she attended the Summer Academy Salzburg, whilst she was painting in Oil Pastels and made Etchings; she illustrated books in collaboration with a Tanzanian publisher and writer, Walter Bgoya. Since 1987, she lives in Limassol where she is painting portraits, landscape, olive trees and icons in pastel, acrylic and pencil. She also uses many other materials and paints modern-day icons on old wood, in the traditional style.
