Description

The 12-year old Veysel has escaped from Turkey to Austria together with his family. At school he becomes an outsider because of his insufficient language abilities. At home his elder brother revolts against their father and Veysel is overwhelmed by his problems. But there exists this girl in his class, Ana, with whom Veysel is desperately in love. When he has to recite a German poem during the lesson, he asks his Turkish neighbour Cem for help. Together, they translate the poem "Your beauty is worth nothing" from a famous Turkish poet into German, because Veysel wants to impress Ana. As the police suddenly appears on Veysels's door, his dreams seem to be destroyed.
