Description

The Unknown

The two travellers lean over each other, ready for an unexpected encounter. Look, a silky beam touches the borderline of life and wonderland. You are an angel, my love, a wind-blown collection of clichés.

The Unknown sets an idealized, metaphysical tone taking us away from earthly existence. It explores the road beyond our actual encounters, how we can let go of each other, what we release and what we hold on to leaving our points of intersection behind. Is the encounter of two spirits predestined, the act of fate or fortune or is it the play of desire and imagination? Do our vagabond souls continue the journey or do we fade into sheer nothingness? The Unknown takes us on a distant, inner journey, where present dissolves, no imperative to act remains, and gender differences melt. Where silence is the landlord and we are only visitors.

Hungarian choreographer Éva Duda's duet entitled The Unknown was originally danced by the choreographer and Hungarian Opera House dancer Zoltán Feicht. Following a recent re-staging, young members of the Central Europe Dance Theatre Nóra Palcsó and Zoltán Katonka perform Duda's duet that debuted in Budapest in April 2009. In late spring the piece was also shown in Szeged, Hungary and at the Kings Festival in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, where Nóra Palcsó was awarded the prize for best female performer.
